Utilize the Week 15 Exercises to Help Kids Learn about Healthy Food and Animals that Help with Healing

The objective for our Week 15 lessons is to teach critical reading and thinking skills using current news about “Quinn on Nutrition:
ABCs of good-for-you-foods” (Level 1 lesson) and “‘Co-therapist’ dogs and ponies to help boost mental health of pediatric patients” (Level 2 lesson).

Some of the exercises of this week’s Level 1 lesson include:

  • Vocabulary: Multimeaning words related to nutrition
  • Author’s Purpose: Discuss the author’s intent for writing about healthy foods
  • “Drawing Conclusions Making Inferences”: Discuss ideas about fruit, quinoa, and other foods
  • More exercises are available in the Extensions Activities

Some of the exercises of this week’s Level 2 lesson include:

  • Vocabulary:  Dictionary and contextual clues about therapy animals
  • Adequacy of Data: Discuss evidence about the claim that animals can help in the healing process
  • “Drawing Conclusions Making Inferences”: Discuss the program and its function
  • More exercises are available in the Extensions Activities
